The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
