Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following starting disrespectful chants aimed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road finished amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford and Wilder
The pair had history prior to Leeds won promotion back to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
