Grief as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities said that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a location close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property managing the implementation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but fell down a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the location.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She urged the citizens to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.

Apart from his media career, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including protective services, providing elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.

A cabinet official said he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.

In a statement, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".
