No professional sports organization promotes equal footing as effectively as the NFL: it’s the entire brand. However, after 10 weeks of this season, this doesn't represent a landscape with perfect equilibrium among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Detroit as well (six and three), with their fluctuating form in trench play and have been dealing with coaching drama, have proven they're capable of dominating good teams. For all five, it's straightforward to construct a route to the final game.

AFC Playoff Chaos

In the AFC however, the playoff picture remains completely chaotic. The four teams leading their divisions at this stage: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (each with 8-2 records) and Steelers (five wins, four losses). Read that again. Not the Chiefs. Not the Bills. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. Historically strong franchises, supported by the league’s best quarterbacks, possess either significant personnel gaps or have been hit by injuries.

Competitive Balance System

From certain perspectives, this represents the NFL's perfect scenario. But watching this season's top AFC teams in the American Football Conference remains somewhat odd. Aspects of each franchise pass the championship smell test, but not in their entirety. Indianapolis Outlook

Starting in Indianapolis, Daniel Jones hasn't yet achieved complete disaster level. But the last two weeks have been worrying. He’s back to turning over the ball and struggling against pressure. Patriots Examination

New England appears fairly alike. Last season, they were a punchline. Today, they stand as the NFL's most pleasant shock and the hottest team across the league post seven wins in a row. If not for committing turnover errors a winnable game facing Pittsburgh, they’d be sitting a 9-1 record with the top standing. Previously, they were old and slow. Currently they're youthful, quick and confident. However, we must acknowledge the ease of the Patriots' matchups. They have faced the least challenging lineup across the NFL, and flaws have still emerged. Their quarterback has been brought down on 35 occasions – among the highest totals – and some of the shots he suffered last weekend were vicious. Over time, that punishment compounds.

Broncos Situation

The Broncos hold also 8-2, and the perception remains that they're barely surviving. The Denver signal-caller has performed unevenly, and the offense plodding, with the defense doing the majority of the work. Without serviceable quarterback play, Denver cannot intimidate playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending in the AFC West at 7-2, yet medical problems affecting their protection unit will present challenges to achieve championship contention.

Steelers Examination

And then there’s Pittsburgh, inexplicably frontrunning the AFC North even after suffering a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers on Sunday night. They've been outscored overall, their defense regularly vanishes, with their quarterback's restrictions during his career phase continue to show up. They’re 5–4 and holding on, but Baltimore, featuring a recovered Jackson with manageable games ahead, have won three consecutive. This development isn't entirely shocking that the Ravens have narrowed within a game of the Steelers, though the speed of this shift is an indictment of the Steelers' uneven performances. The fact Baltimore began with a 1-5 record and still look like capable of division victory speaks volumes regarding the conference as a whole.

Established Contenders

Baltimore constitutes part within a trio of powerhouses – joined by Buffalo and Kansas City – fueled by former MVP signal-callers, that would continue to generate the greatest concern among competitors if they made the playoffs. They represent undesirable playoff matchups, but the Chiefs and Bills continue to self-destruct.

Buffalo Analysis

A week ago, the Bills felt confident following victory over Kansas City. On Sunday they suffered one of the most disappointing losses of the season. They didn't merely fall against Miami; they were embarrassed, dropping a 30-13 road game. The Dolphins secured their first triumph against Buffalo in over three years.
