England to Launch Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward qualification for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions game since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Demonstration

The championship was unveiled at an event in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they entered the site by about 50 activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were held up with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will involve the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a broader range of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.

Venues and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the game – its emotion and ability to bring people together.”

In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be offered to attendees.
