Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
