Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

The manager lamented known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with performances this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
